biologico
biological
adjective byoh-LOH-jee-koh Rare
Origin: From Greek biologikos, from bios (life) + logos (study).
Also means
organic
Usage Note
Biologico means biological in a scientific sense but is also the standard Italian term for 'organic' food (agricoltura biologica, prodotti biologici). In supermarkets bio is the shorthand. A false friend for English speakers: biologico does NOT mean 'biological warfare' by default — that is guerra biologica, specifying the context.
Examples
"Compro sempre frutta e verdura biologica."
Natural Translation
I always buy organic fruit and vegetables.
