Bottega can mean a small traditional shop, an artisan's workshop, or a craftsman's studio. La bottega del calzolaio is the shoemaker's shop; an artist's bottega is the workshop where apprentices trained under a master. The expression tenere bottega means to run a shop. The plural is botteghe (note the h to preserve the hard 'g' sound before e).
