Usage Note
Botto means a loud bang or thud. The phrase di botto is a very common idiom meaning 'all of a sudden, abruptly' (si è fermato di botto, he stopped dead). At New Year, i botti refers to fireworks and firecrackers. Do not confuse with botte (f, plural of botta = blow, or a barrel).
