Usage Note
Buon is the elided form of buono, used before masculine nouns beginning with a consonant (other than s+consonant, z, ps, gn, x): buon giorno, buon anno. It is NOT a separate word — it is simply the pre-nominal truncation. Before vowels and the listed consonant clusters, the full form buono is kept.
