capitalista

capitalist

adjective kah-pee-tah-LEES-tah Rare

Origin: From French 'capitaliste', from 'capital'.

Usage Note

Capitalista functions both as an adjective (sistema capitalista — capitalist system) and as a noun (un capitalista — a capitalist). Unusually, the singular form is invariable between masculine and feminine (un capitalista / una capitalista); only the plural changes: i capitalisti (m) / le capitaliste (f). The noun capitalismo (m) means 'capitalism.'
