cipriota

Cypriot

noun adjective chee-pree-OH-tah Rare

Origin: From 'Cipro' (Cyprus), the Mediterranean island nation.

Usage Note

Cipriota is one of the nationality words in Italian that ends in -a for both masculine and feminine in the singular: un cipriota (m), una cipriota (f). The plural, however, differs: i ciprioti (m/mixed) and le cipriote (f). As an adjective it behaves the same way: il governo cipriota.

Examples

"Mia cugina ha sposato un cipriota."

Natural Translation

My cousin married a Cypriot man.
