Also means
commission; order (commercial)
Usage Note
Commessa has two distinct uses: a female shop assistant (la commessa del negozio) and, in commercial/administrative language, a commission or order for work (una commessa di lavoro). The masculine counterpart of the shop assistant sense is commesso. Be careful of the context: in a business document, commessa almost certainly means a work order, not a salesperson.
Examples
"La commessa mi ha aiutato a trovare la taglia giusta."
Natural Translation
The shop assistant helped me find the right size.
