Comprensione covers both intellectual comprehension (la comprensione del testo = reading comprehension) and empathic understanding (mostrare comprensione = to show understanding/empathy). The plural le comprensioni is regular but rarely used. Learners should note that capire is the everyday verb, while comprensione is the formal noun counterpart of comprendere.
