Usage Note
Conosciuto is the past participle of conoscere used as an adjective meaning 'known' or 'well-known'. It differs from famoso (famous) in degree: a person can be conosciuto in their field without being famoso to the general public. As a participle in compound tenses, conoscere takes avere: ho conosciuto ('I met/came to know').
