Usage Note

Corrompere is irregular: past participle corrotto, past historic io corruppi. It means both to bribe (corrompere un funzionario, to bribe an official) and to morally corrupt (il potere corrompe). The reflexive corrompersi means to become corrupted or to rot (of food). Auxiliary avere; the reflexive takes essere.
