Origin: English loanword fully adopted into Italian technical vocabulary.
Usage Note
Database is an anglicism used universally in Italian computing and IT. Despite the seed gender 'f', it is almost always treated as masculine in contemporary Italian usage — il database, un database relazionale. It is invariable (no Italian plural form: i database). The Italian equivalent base di dati exists but is rarely used outside formal documentation.
Examples
"Il database contiene milioni di record."
