disperatamente

desperately

adverb dee-speh-rah-tah-MEN-teh Rare

Usage Note

Disperatamente is formed regularly from the adjective disperato ('desperate') + the adverbial suffix -mente. It intensifies verbs of effort, longing, or struggle: cercare disperatamente ('to search desperately'), innamorarsi disperatamente ('to fall desperately in love'). The double -t- in pronunciation is held, as in all Italian geminate consonants.

Examples

"Cercava disperatamente le chiavi di casa."

Natural Translation

She was desperately looking for her house keys.
