Duro describes hardness of texture and difficulty of life alike, agreeing as dura/duri/dure. The exclamation tieni duro! means 'hang in there', and un osso duro ('a hard bone') is a tough nut to crack. As an adverb in lavorare sodo duro can also mean working hard.
