Usage Note
Estrapolazione is used in mathematics, statistics, and general reasoning to mean projecting beyond known data. The verb is estrapolare — estrapolare un dato (to extrapolate a figure). Be aware that estrapolare is sometimes used loosely in Italian to mean simply 'to extract' or 'to take out of context', which is considered a semantic stretch by purists.
Examples
"L'estrapolazione dei dati porta a risultati incerti."
Natural Translation
Extrapolation of the data leads to uncertain results.
