evidentemente

evidently

adverb eh-vee-den-teh-MEN-teh Less Common

Also means

obviously

Usage Note

Evidentemente can mark a logical inference ('evidently, he knew') or concede an unpleasant fact ('evidently I was wrong'). Unlike ovviamente (obviously), it retains a slight note of drawing a conclusion from visible evidence. It is slightly more formal than chiaramente.

Examples

"Evidentemente non aveva capito la domanda."

Natural Translation

Evidently he had not understood the question.
