evolvere
to evolve
verb eh-VOL-veh-reh Rare
Origin: From Latin evolvere (to unroll, unfold), from e- + volvere (to roll).
Usage Note
Evolvere can be transitive (evolvere una strategia — to develop/evolve a strategy) or, more commonly, intransitive with essere (la situazione si è evoluta — the situation has evolved), where the reflexive evolversi is used. In scientific contexts it follows Darwin's theory of evolution (le specie si evolvono — species evolve). The past participle is evoluto.
Examples
"La tecnologia si è evoluta molto rapidamente."
Natural Translation
Technology has evolved very rapidly.
