Usage Note

Faccendiere carries a strongly negative connotation — it describes someone who busies themselves with shady deals or exploits political/business connections for personal gain. It is a derogatory term in Italian journalism, roughly equivalent to 'shady broker' or 'political fixer'. The feminine faccendiera exists but is less common. It derives from faccenda (matter, affair, chore).
