Falla (f) denotes a breach or gap — most concretely a hole in a ship's hull below the waterline that causes flooding, but also used figuratively for a flaw or loophole in a system, plan, or argument. Tappare una falla ('to plug a breach') is a common fixed expression for patching a critical gap.
