Origin: From Latin falco, possibly related to falx (sickle), for its curved talons.

Usage Note

Falco refers to birds of the falcon family, including both falcons and hawks. In Italian political discourse falco also means 'hawk' (a hardliner), contrasted with colomba (dove, a moderate). The plural is falchi. Falconry, still practised in Italy, is falconeria.
