fama
fame, reputation
noun FAH-mah Less Common
Origin: Latin fama (report, rumour, fame)
Also means
rumour (archaic)
Usage Note
Fama is feminine and almost always used in the singular as an uncountable noun: ha una buona fama = has a good reputation. The idiom di fama mondiale means 'world-famous'. Do not confuse it with fame (f) = hunger, which looks similar but is unrelated in meaning.
