Farsa can denote the theatrical genre of farce (broad comedy, exaggerated situations) or, figuratively, any situation dismissed as a sham or a joke ('è stata una farsa' = 'it was a complete farce'). The plural is farse. Do not confuse with farcia ('filling' in cooking).
