Usage Note

Favorita is the feminine form of favorito and refers to the favoured person, especially in historical contexts the favourite mistress of a king or nobleman. In sport it is used for the female favourite to win a competition (la favorita della gara). The masculine counterpart is il favorito. Do not confuse with preferita (preferred, more neutral).
