gioventù

youth

noun joh-ven-TOO Rare

Origin: Latin iuventus (youth).

Usage Note

Gioventù is an invariable noun ending in an accented vowel — its plural would also be gioventù, but it is almost always used in the singular as an abstract concept. It refers to the period of being young or to young people collectively. The related adjective is giovane (young). Nella mia gioventù means 'in my youth'. Compare giovinezza, a more literary synonym.

Examples

"Ha trascorso la gioventù in campagna."

Natural Translation

She spent her youth in the countryside.
