Giustificazione can refer to a logical justification (non c'è giustificazione per questo comportamento — 'there is no justification for this behaviour') or, in school contexts, the written excuse note a parent sends for an absence (portare la giustificazione — 'to bring the absence note'). The verb is giustificare.
