Imputare takes avere as its auxiliary. In legal Italian, imputare qualcuno di un reato means to charge someone with a crime; the noun l'imputato (m) / l'imputata (f) means 'the accused' or 'the defendant'. In accounting, it means to assign a cost to a budget item: imputare una spesa (to book an expense).
