Incaricato functions both as an adjective ('the assigned official') and as a noun (l'incaricato) meaning 'the person in charge' or 'the delegate'. It is common in formal and bureaucratic Italian: incaricato d'affari is a diplomatic term for 'chargé d'affaires'. The feminine form is incaricata.
