Usage Note

Incaricare means to assign a task or responsibility to someone — è stato incaricato di gestire il progetto ('he was put in charge of managing the project'). The reflexive incaricarsi di means 'to take it upon oneself to do something'. The derived noun incarico ('assignment, task, post') is very common.
