Usage Note
Incompetente is invariable for gender and pluralises as incompetenti. It functions as both an adjective (un medico incompetente) and a noun (è un incompetente = 'he is an incompetent'). It is a strong term of criticism. The milder alternatives are inesperto ('inexperienced') or impreparato ('unprepared').
