invalidare

to invalidate

verb een-vah-lee-DAH-reh Rare

Origin: From Latin invalidus (weak, not valid).

Also means

to nullify

Usage Note

Invalidare takes avere as its auxiliary. It is used in legal contexts (invalidare un contratto — to invalidate a contract), in computing (invalidare la cache — to invalidate the cache), and in logic (invalidare un argomento — to invalidate an argument). The past participle invalidato is common as an adjective. Do not confuse with rendere invalido which can also mean to disable someone.

Examples

"Il giudice ha invalidato il contratto."

Natural Translation

The judge invalidated the contract.
