lecchese

of Lecco

adjective leh-KEH-zeh Rare

Also means

from Lecco

Usage Note

Lecchese refers to anything or anyone from Lecco, a city on Lake Como in Lombardy. Like most Italian adjectives of origin ending in -ese, it is invariable in gender: un uomo lecchese, una donna lecchese; plural lecchesi. Lecco is famous as the setting of Alessandro Manzoni's novel I Promessi Sposi, so lecchese can evoke that literary connection.

Examples

"Il dialetto lecchese è ancora parlato dagli anziani."

Natural Translation

The Lecco dialect is still spoken by the elderly.
