Maceria most commonly appears in the plural macerie, which is used to describe the ruins or rubble left after demolition, an earthquake, or a bombardment — tra le macerie ('amid the rubble'). The singular maceria can also mean a dry-stone wall in agricultural Italian. The plural form macerie is far more frequent.
