Maggio is the fifth month of the year. In Italian, months are NOT capitalized. The expression il primo maggio is Labour Day (May Day). Maggio is also associated with il mese di Maria (month of the Virgin Mary) in Catholic tradition. Do not confuse with maggiore (major, greater) despite similar spelling.
