Usage Note

Maturare is used of fruit ripening (le mele maturano in autunno), of a person growing up or gaining experience (è maturato molto), and of plans or ideas developing (un'idea che matura nel tempo). It takes essere in compound tenses when intransitive (motion/change of state sense): la frutta è maturata. With avere when transitive.
