Usage Note

Misterioso agrees in gender and number: un uomo misterioso, una donna misteriosa, fatti misteriosi. It follows its noun in neutral descriptive use but can precede it for emphasis or literary effect. The noun il mistero (mystery) shares the same root. Fare il misterioso means 'to act mysterious' or 'to be secretive'.
