Mistero is a masculine noun (il mistero, plural i misteri). It covers both an unsolved mystery and the religious sense of a sacred mystery or sacrament (i misteri del Rosario — the mysteries of the Rosary). In everyday Italian, è un mistero! is a common exclamation. The adjective is misterioso (mysterious). The stress falls on the second syllable: mi-STEH-roh.
