Necessario agrees in gender and number: il passo necessario, la spesa necessaria, i documenti necessari. It commonly appears in impersonal constructions: è necessario che + subjunctive (è necessario che tu venga — it is necessary that you come). The adverb is necessariamente. Do not confuse with necessità (necessity, the noun).
