parlare
to speak
verb par-LAH-reh Common
Origin: Late Latin parabolare, from parabola, 'parable, speech'
Also means
to talk
Usage Note
Parlare is one of the most common Italian verbs and follows the regular -are conjugation perfectly. It uses avere when intransitive (ha parlato, has spoken) but note that parlarsi (reflexive, to talk to each other) uses essere. The construction parlare di means to talk about; parlare con means to speak with.
