Usage Note

Pedigree is borrowed directly from English and is invariable in Italian (no plural inflection). It is used for animals' certified lineage as in English, but also metaphorically for a person's distinguished background: un politico di sicuro pedigree (a politician with solid credentials). Always masculine.
