Abbaiare is a regular -are verb meaning to bark (of a dog). The idiomatic phrase cane che abbaia non morde ('a barking dog doesn't bite') is a very common proverb. It takes avere as its auxiliary in compound tenses: il cane ha abbaiato tutta la notte.
