peggiore
worse; worst
adjective peh-JOH-reh Less Common
Origin: Latin pejor (worse), comparative of malus (bad)
Usage Note
Peggiore serves as both the comparative ('worse') and the superlative (il peggiore = 'the worst') of cattivo/brutto in formal Italian. It does not change for gender (il caso peggiore / la situazione peggiore) but has a plural peggiori. The adverb peggio (worse) is separate. Do not confuse with peggiorare (to worsen, the verb).
Examples
"Questa è la peggiore situazione che abbia mai visto."
Natural Translation
This is the worst situation I have ever seen.
