Perito in Italian has a specific technical meaning: a certified expert or court-appointed assessor (perito giudiziario). It also designates someone holding a perito diploma (a 5-year technical secondary qualification below a university degree). The feminine form is perita. Do not confuse with the adjective esperto (knowledgeable) in general use.
