Poco functions as adverb ('a little', 'not much'), adjective (poco pane = 'little bread'), pronoun (ne ho poco = 'I have little of it'), and noun. As an adjective it agrees in gender and number: poca acqua, pochi amici, poche idee. The phrase a poco a poco means 'little by little'.
