Usage Note

Presentire belongs to the -ire conjugation (third group) and follows the pattern of sentire: presento, presenti, presente. It expresses an intuitive foreknowledge — presentire il pericolo (to sense danger ahead). The noun presentimento (premonition) is more common in everyday speech. It takes avere in compound tenses.
