prevedibile

predictable

adjective preh-veh-DEE-bee-leh Rare

Also means

foreseeable

Usage Note

Prevedibile is invariable in gender: un esito prevedibile, una risposta prevedibile. It derives from prevedere (to foresee). In informal speech, calling a film or plot prevedibile is a mild criticism meaning 'too obvious'. The opposite is imprevedibile (unpredictable), which is very common in Italian and follows the same gender-invariable pattern.

Examples

"Il finale del film era troppo prevedibile."

Natural Translation

The film's ending was too predictable.
