Usage Note

Primogenitura is the legal and historical principle by which the firstborn child — historically the firstborn son — inherits the family estate, title, or rights before younger siblings. It is closely linked to diritto di primogenitura (right of primogeniture). The concept appears widely in literature, dynastic history, and the Bible (Esau selling his primogenitura to Jacob).
