Usage Note

Punire belongs to the -ire conjugation and is a -isc- verb in the present tense: punisco, punisci, punisce, puniamo, punite, puniscono. It takes avere as its auxiliary. The corresponding noun is punizione (punishment). Do not confuse with premiare (to reward), its antonym.
