Usage Note
Qualificare is used both in sport (a team si qualifica = 'qualifies' for a tournament, reflexive qualificarsi) and in descriptive contexts (qualificare qualcuno come esperto = 'to describe someone as an expert'). The reflexive qualificarsi is far more common than the transitive in sporting contexts. It takes avere as its auxiliary.
