Usage Note

Rallegrare means to make someone happy or to cheer a place up (i fiori rallegrarono la stanza). The reflexive rallegrarsi means 'to rejoice' or 'to congratulate': mi rallegro con te ('I congratulate you / I'm so pleased for you'). It takes avere when transitive and essere when reflexive in compound tenses.
