Usage Note
Reazionario entered Italian political vocabulary during the 19th century to describe those opposing revolutionary or liberal change — the mirror term to rivoluzionario. Used today to label any strongly conservative or backward-looking stance. It can also function as a noun: un reazionario (a reactionary). In everyday speech it often carries a pejorative tone.
