Replicare is the standard verb for issuing a verbal reply or counter-argument (replicò senza esitare — 'he replied without hesitating'). In scientific contexts it means to replicate an experiment. It takes avere as auxiliary. Do not confuse with rispondere, which is the everyday 'to answer'.
